do all to the glory of God.”

Eating for the Glory
by Troy Pearsall

(1 Corinthians 6:19)What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

For some reason these words seem to ring out in my mind more than any others. It was as if God was telling me exactly what God wanted me to do. I have a deep distain for the size of the Christian church not the number of members but the girth of its members.

I felt it very difficult to say as a Christian that I was delivered but my body was still suffering from diabetes, and heart disease, sleep apnea and any number of other weight related sickness.

What God is this that would delivery me and I still suffered from the same sickness and disease as everyone else that had not given their life to Jesus Christ. Some how I knew that delivery was much more than a state of mind, it had to be real.

Now living a life in the gym, being a bodybuilder, gymnast, and playing football put me around people that were always in pretty good physical shape. And these people were not necessarily the godliest people I had ever met. It seemed unfair that they would have everything in life and those that were truly living their life correctly should not.

Then it hit me, the big difference was all those people cared about their body, they treated it with the respect in what they ate, how they exercised, and in proper conditioning and lotion for their skin. They worshiped their bodies as if they were temples!

We live in a world where we are taught that it’s OK to be a little Overweight, where parents teach their children that God loves them no matter what they look like. However in truth God's will is far from its Ok to be overweight.  I would be bold enough to say that  not only does God not want us to be overweight, God wants us to be as healthy as possible. God wants us to be healthy and physical fit. God wants us to be mindful of what we eat; God wants us to be delivered physically. as well as spiritually!

 Am I saying that God cares about how we eat? Absolutely! And here are a few reasons why;

  1. (1Corinthians 10:31) says, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
    Now contrary to what you may think this does not mean to simply ask the blessing before a meal, it means to eat is such a way that your thoughts and are toward glorifying god with what you eat.
    Paul tells us that our body is a temple of the Holy Ghost. Try to understand how deep this statement is, it says within us lives the very spirit of God! Now not one God fearing Christian would think about defiling a church, however we would stuff our bodies with junk and even good foods to such a way that the food which God has blessed our own passions have cursed!

  2. (1Corinthians 6:20) for ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which is God’.
    Now we can see that it is more than a physical obligation to take care of our bodies it is a moral and spiritual requirement. We have stewardship of our bodies but not ownership. This vessel we call our body belongs to God. It was paid for by the blood of Christ not just our spirit but also our physical self.

This is our requirement to take care of our body, this is God’s desire that we take care of our body.

 God Bless Troy
